Tree Farm History

Rooted in family, service, and tradition since 1974.

What began as John and Irene Umrysz’s shared love for planting trees has grown into a lasting family legacy. From humble beginnings in the 1960s to officially opening Yetter Road Tree Farm in 1974, their dedication to nature and community lives on through their son Lee and grandson Tom. Today, three generations later, the Umrysz family continues to nurture the same spirit of care, hard work, and holiday tradition that started it all.

The Tree Farm Today

Growing trees and traditions for the next generation.

Now in its third generation, Yetter Road Tree Farm is led by Tom Ackley Umrysz, whose lifelong passion for farming began before he could even reach the pedals of the tractor. Today, Tom is passing that same love of the land to his children, Ariya and Jackson, while continuing to advance the farm through his work with the Connecticut Christmas Tree Growers Association. With a deep commitment to science, sustainability, and family tradition, Tom ensures every tree — from Balsam to Fraser Fir — is grown with care, pride, and plenty of room to grow.

Season of Giving

Help us spread holiday cheer.

Every November and December, we help local families in need by partnering with the Town of Groton Human Services for the “Adopt-A-Family” program and Christmas Food Drive. We invite everyone who comes by the farm to help us make this holiday season magical for everyone by participating in one of our giving drives. This year we will be "Adopting" 100 local children!
